Whitegood Whiteboards
GE's launch campaign slogan “Imagination at Work”
has replaces “We Bring Good Things To Life”. One expects
all sorts of interactive multimedia goodies to tell you what to
cook, how to cook it, whether you are eating too much or your clothes
need extra cleaning. Ye the gem seems to be a simple virtual whiteboard
that householders can sketch and scribble on. The gleaming white
surfaces of GE’s appliances, commonly known as 'white goods'
has been surfaced as a 'whiteboard'. Introducing the sketch-a-fridge.
Currently only available in Brazil, sold as Risque Rabisque
[Scrawl & Scribble], the refrigerator is covered in a special
coating similar to dry erase whiteboards.
So instead of all those magnets holding shopping lists and kiddie
art, inhabitants can now write directly on the appliance and wipe
off easily.
Just goes to show that not all innovation needs to be super high
tech. An element of fun can be just as much of a sales magnet, at
a fraction of the cost.
Other appliance manufacturers with similar appliance surfaces are
Whirlpool’s Brazilian appliance brands, Consul, with Aquarela,
a line of sketchable refrigerators.
