Buying A Second Hand Digital Camera
Considering buying a second hand digital camera - heres a few tips
to ensure you get a good deal:
Don't buy any camera over 5 years old. 93 percent of cameras do
not have any issues in the first five years, however, the advances
in technology make them significantly out of date. For instance,
make sure the camer is at least 6 mega pixels.
Check that all the accessories are included:
- USB Cable
- AV Cable
- Battery Charger / AC Plugin
- Case
Before turning the camera on:
- Check the exterior of dings and scratches - this shows it has
been knocked around and well used, so avoid
- Check the screen for scratches
- Take the battery out - check the contact points are clean and
free of corrosion
- Check the Card Slot for dirt
Turn the camera on:
- Check the slide cover opens as it should
- Check zoom operation
- Check screen lights up as it should and menu displays correctly
- Scroll through the menu for correct functioning
- Test the flash
- Take a few pictures in different light and modes
If you are still keen - don't pay more than 50% - 60% of the current
retail price.
