The Precor brand has a true elliptical motion, unlike some other elliptical trainers machines on the market. Precor were the first company to introduce the elliptical machine to the market in 1995. It's the brand most often seen in gyms, due to the high quality of its construction and long term warranty.

Precor manufacture three popular elliptical cross trainers: Precor EFX 5.17i, 5.21i and 5.23.

• Precor 5.17i has 4 programs and 20 resistance levels.
• Precor 5.21i has 6 programs and 20 resistance levels. $900 difference in price.
• Precor 5.23 has a lot more options - 14 programs and 20 resistance levels, a $4000+ price tag is too much for most home users.

All the 5.2x series have the same frame and drive assembly. Only the Polar heart rate monitor, display, and program options, vary between 5.2x models.

Even though there is not much size difference between the 5.17i and 5.21i, most home users opt for the smaller 5.17i model, but for larger weights and frames, the commercial Precor 5.21i and Precor 5.23 models are better.
