Exercise Workout Program DVD's
A good Exercise Workout VHS Video or DVD is like having a fitnes
trainer in your briefcase. If you are a dedicated fitness enthusiast,
and are comfortable with your exercise technique, then exercise
program videos and DVD's are the ideal fitness accessory.
I spent nearly ten years going to the gym, but after expanding
my consulting practice to international clients, I found gym memberships
and my daily work schedule made getting to the gym both unappealing
and time wasting.
Instead, I travel with a couple of key compact exercise equipment
items, and a handful of DVD's. The real benefit of the DVD's is
regardless of how I feel each day, I always have the right program
with me. As a minimum, I have one each of:
- Yoga or Pilates
- Aerobic or Shape Up Toning
- Strength Training - Using the Body For Weight
By keeping a good library at my home, I can swap my selection out
each trip to prevent getting bored. Combined with walking - I have
a complete workout center on the run.
Fitness Program Features
The range of fitness programs available on DVD is expansive, so
it pays to know how to filter out the gems.
Look for qualifications - too many movie stars
seem to think they are fitness experts, and I find in most cases
their technique leaves a lot to be desired. Qualification does not
just need to be a Fitness Trainer. Competitive amateurs can also
offer a skilled workout. I have a favorite Kick Boxing Series put
together by the World Kick Boxing Champ [at the time].
Price is no guide - i have a favorite Aussie Fitness
Series that I find absolutely terrific. And they cost under
$A20 each. Their technique is text-book and they do explain any
danger points along the way.
Check the Camera Technique - how dumb can some
videographers be!. They either stay zoomed on the face on the instructor
or try to get all creative by zooming in on a single muscle group
for a whole minute or more - whlist you are left in noddy land as
to exactly what the move is.
Program Structure & Duration - check the structure
and time of the workout, and ensure that it includes warm up and
warm down sequences. Ideally go for 45-50 minute workouts; these
normally have 10 minute warm ups and 5 minute cool downs, giving
you a good 30 minute intense workout in the middle.
Audio Quality - the audio quality is not just
how easy it is to hear, but also how well the instructor explains
things as they go. Forget the funky lingo - this is my precious
body you are rapping with. I want it explained clearly and precisely
so I can do it right first time, without having to translate your
lingo!
