Toshiba Gigabeat MP3 Player Review
If you can't justify the iPod price for the lack of features and
range of music formats, the Toshiba Gigabeat is the closest contenter
to the Aple iPod in terms of its intuitive interface, small size
and excellent audio quality.
In fact, the Toshiba Gigabeat beat the iPod for the top spot in
Hard Drive MP3 Players in a recent CNET review, claiming "its
user interface is terrific ......"the next great portable media
device."
Form & Function
- Size - The 30GB Toshiba MP3 player is slightly
smaller than the 30GB iPod. The larger versions of both are about
the same size.
- Screen - 2.4-inch color LCD, supporting 65,000
colors, the quality of both video and photos are as good as iPod
- Sound - quality is very good to excellent,
with many reviewers claiming it to be better than the iPod.
Features
- Battery life - is a bit of an issue, with just
12 hours of MP3 playback and 2.5 hours of video [ iPod - 14 to
20 hours of MP3 playback].
- PC Compatability - the Gigabeat is only compatible
with Windows XP -- no support for Mac computers or Windows Vista
as yet.
- Media Player Compatability - supports Windows
Media Player 11, which is compatible with Windows Vista.
Media
- Formats Supported - supports all the major
music file formats (except Apple's AAC)
- Video - plays video
- FM tuner - a feature missing on the iPod.
Accessories
All the reviews we read rate the Toshiba Gigabeat as highly or
nearly as highly as the iPod.
Like the iPod, the Toshiba lacks a voice recorder or music recorder.
