Since all of the following Blu Ray Players are high priced, our
expectations were also high in design, operability, connectivity
and game libaries.
PlayStation 3
SUPPORT
Design - looks good and has user-friendly interface.
Operability - 60GB hard drive, quiet operation
and plays high-def Blu-ray movies in addition to standard DVDs
Connectivity - support for Wi-Fi; Bluetooth upcoming
support for wireless controllers and accessories; built-in memory
card readers; HDMI output with 1080p support; no external power
supply
Games - All games in high-definition, backwards-compatible
with PS2 and PS1 titles; online play is free.
AGAINST
Design - glossy black finish bad for fingerprints
Operability - no force feedback (rumble) support
in controller;
Connectivity - noUSB port; no infrared port [non-Bluetooth
universal remotes aren't compatible]
Games - first batch of games pretty pathetic;
doesn't upscale DVDs to HD resolution;
....and high price [Around $USD 600]
OVERALL: Sony's PlayStation 3 is
the most expensive next-gen game console, with bland launch titles
but its design and Blu-ray drive, are proving popular.

over home network via an Ethernet port; DVD upconversion to 720p,
1080i, and 1080p.
Games - Excellent picture quality on Blu-ray movies
AGAINST
Design -
Operability - DVD upconversion not as good as
other makes; doesn't play CDs; no HDMI 1.3.
Connectivity -
Games -
OVERALL: The superior Blu-ray image
quality and good home networking features do little to compensate
for the inferior DVD upconversion and no CD playback .
Panasonic DMP-BD10
SUPPORT

Operability - DVD upconversion to 480p, 720p,
1080i, and 1080p; HDMI output; DVD-Audio support.
Connectivity -
Games - Excellent picture quality on Blu-ray and
DVD;
AGAINST
Design - terrible remote; annoying front flip-down
panel on unit;
Operability - relatively slow load times; no HDMI

OVERALL: Although the Panasonic
DMP-BD10 appears a competent Blu-ray player, it lacks operability
compared to PlayStation 3 making it a hard sell at its high price.
